TVI’s Recruitment Cocktails: Recruiting the Best Marketing and Design Talent
For those of you in the know, TVI started a new initiative called the “G2KT (Get To Know TVI) Recruitment Cocktails”. As a relatively new recruiting initiative, it is currently into its third month. Given the name, some of you would probably guess it is an event where possible candidates meet the TVI team; have some drinks; nibble on sandwiches; play some intriguing business games; network with other talent; have loads of fun and leave, right? This may be true, to a certain degree, but keep in mind, it is still a recruitment event! The key word here is “recruitment”. In other words, you are being observed and assessed, the whole time. Yes, we invite potential talent to our office to get to know each other a little more intimately and figure out if you are going to be a good fit for the team, in more ways than one.
What do we look for when recruiting?
Good question. These are some of the things we assess from the minute you walk in through our door:
- Are you a good cultural fit? Every organization has its own culture and we are all about performing in a fun and innovative environment.
- What kind of personality do you have? Do you speak up? Are you confident or overconfident? Do you let your creative juices flow? Are you a follower? Do you have leadership qualities? Yes, whatever the position may be. If you can’t lead yourself and a team of people, how are you going to convey your ideas to some of the most challenging clients we work with?
- Are you a team player? Can you work with different people from various nationalities and expertise? Are you able to get the job done without throwing your colleagues under the bus?
- Are you a friendly, resourceful, down-to-earth and skilled individual? What skills do you have that we want? Are you quick on your feet? How do you handle stress and do you make people around you feel at ease? Do you take the initiative to approach others or wait to be approached?
What is the best way to stand out?
- Sell yourself and I don’t mean to “hog the stage” every time you get the opportunity. But know when to strategically talk about yourself while giving others a chance to talk. Active listening is very important as well.
- Prepare, or as the common phrase goes, “Google it”. As the saying goes, information is at our finger tips so be sure to read about the organization, see what opportunities we have online. It’s also helpful to bring and distribute business cards or connect with some of us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn before the event.
- Be uninhibited. Please don’t misinterpret this. All I’m saying is to meet and talk to as many people as possible especially the hosts! Ask questions. Be inquisitive. Let your personality shine but don’t overdo it. You can still be professional and have fun.
- Give feedback. It’s helpful to complete our feedback form at the end of every event as it helps us to tailor our events and make them even better!
- Stay in touch. Thank your hosts and connect with them on their social media platforms.
